Lovely NZ Manaia Stone carved into a freeform Toki. Carved by Dean Taylor.
Traditionally Toki were used by Māori to cut and work timber for the meeting houses and carvings. Because of the determination, control and strength required to skilfully use the Toki it became a symbol of ability, power and authority. Ceremonial Toki were traditionally worn by Māori elders and Chiefs to signify leadership qualities. May this Toki bring the wearer strength, courage and inspiration on their journey in life.
Manaia stone is found in found in the Coromandel area and refers to silicified wood or plant material, resulting in a stone with tan, white, and black bands.
